America uses far more oil than any other country - it transports its pollution world wide and whereas other nations acknowledge the need to cut back on energy use, America does not see it. There is a shortage of food and some countries are diverting crops which used to supply man to produce biofuels - to feed machines like cars.if choosing mans machines which scar the landscape and belch out fumes to poison the air or to walk and enjoy GOD's creation, i choose to walk.

"well we have cars and we scar the surface of the planet with roads stoping roses growing by covering the earth with trmac or concrete"

Where I am, in the United States, 1.6% of our area, is covered with roads and parking lots. That means that 98.4% is not. When I hike in the wild areas, it is a pleasant experience, but I do not see anywhere near as many flowers there, as I do in the city.
Flowers thrive where there is concrete and tarmac, because that is where people are, and people tend gardens.
The U.S. is a very modern and affluent culture, we have more pavement than anyone I am nearly certain.
I'd hazard a guess, that we have more flowers than anyone also. Most of our land, is available for birds to live in, far from traffic, and many do, it is not as though they have no where to live. Birds can fly, and live where they choose.
Funny thing is, people can do the same thing. If you do not like pavement, there are plenty of unpaved places to live.
The U.S. is 1/3 the size of Russia, 1/10 the size of Africa. I would guess that less that 1/10th of 1% of the world is paved.
It is a matter of perspective, and a matter of choice, how we view the world, comes back to the question of "Is the glass half full, or half empty?"
Thoses who see the glass as half full, can stop to smell the roses, those that see it half empty, choose to smell the smog, belching car smoke and passive cigarette smoke.

Choose well!

your piece about roses set me thinking, the scent of roses is lovely but man has decided that there is a superior smell than plants which GOD created.
We already know that cigarette smoke is pungent and would not have people blowing cigarette smoke into a baby's face we would be shouting about that and tell them to move away to stop the baby passive smoking. We would not be able to smell roses while people were puffing cigarette smoke over tham either. well we have cars and we scar the surface of the planet with roads stoping roses growing by covering the earth with trmac or concrete. the exhaust pipes of cars belch out smoke -making pedestrians passive smoke and creating smog clouds. The noise of traffic affects birds nesting nearby the young have trouble learning bird song of their species. Our love of cars and plastic products destroys resources and you cannot smell plants and flowers growing near fairly busy roads.

Thanks for sharing everyone. I live in the high desert and had tomatoes growing until Thanksgiving. It's all about the micro-climate I guess. That back corner of my lot just stays productive. I guess that's what prayer can do..Put us into a micro-climate of safety and growth. It's hard to look around in nature and not be grateful for micro-climates....but I'm a guy and don't cook for myself so I'm grateful for my microwave too! Peace Everyone!

that was very thoughtful of God to make something that was pleasant to our eyes, and not just make something that was just there...
