I don't know if I have seen your comments before now Druid101, if I had, I should have responded.
You said some kind things there, and I appreciate them. I have to say though, that I am a bit uncomfortable hearing someone else say there is little I cannot accomplish. I go through life thinking that way I guess, I assume if someone else can do something, I probably can as well, unless we are talking athletic accomplishments. However, even though I appraoch life that way, I do not think I am especially gifted with abilities, if I have a gift that makes it seem that way, it is the gift of not knowing any better. Most people can do most of the things that they see other people do, they just haven't taken the time to learn that they can, or learn how to. I just have a love of learning - as a friend of mine wisely said: "It is good to learn 'cuz then you know stuff!
It used to be, that when I had a problem, electrical, plumbing, automotive, etc, I would buy a book, tools and supplies with the money I would have spent on professional repairs. Following that philosophy, I have now done every aspect of building a home with the exception of installing carpet. The philosophy has served me well, and is one reason I have been able to get buy supporting a family of seven on a workmans hourly wage. I think being as near to self-sufficieny as possible, is just a common sense thing to do. That philosophy, has given me a general knowledge about a lot of things, though I have mastery in very little.
I know what you mean about wearing different faces, life is too complicated if you life it that way. We all start out, as diamonds in the rough, our lifespans are an oportunity to add facets.

Your last thought was: "So, perhaps next time you look out the window at the trees newly blooming, take a few moments to be in awe of what you see and then say “Thank You, God, for the gifts You present upon the earth. And thank You for the gifts You have given me”. "

That is good advice, seeing the things around us, gives us the perspective to see, that in the overall scheme of things, we are a tiny part, and there is so much to be thankful for, even the air that we breathe. Kind words like yours, are another.

Hi Omegaman,

Took great interest and delight in what you wrote so well. The parts of which you spoke do not make you a ’split’ personality. Instead, they make you what you are.

I oft look about and smile as I notice the gofts that God has given each and everyone of us. You, my friend, have been blessed with many. There seems very little you can not accomplish, aye?

You are everything from a (no doubt) good employee to a fine father, and loving husband. One able to make wise decisions be it in Church or a purchase. Best of all.. you have Faith in it’s truest form, and live your life that way. Have you ever heard a song by Chris Rice called Live By Faith? Listen sometime. That one is for you.

I suppose what I am trying to say is.. many people go through life wearing masks for every different occasion. Heaven (?) only knows how they remember who they are. You.. tho you accomplish so much in so many roles.. you are always doing it as you.

And once again I failed to look for weeks myself. As I said before, would be nice to get email notification of blog posts, so we could be reminded to come see what’s happening. Thanks for your view on the differences between blogging and Christmas letters. I always appreciate your input and insight, Omega.
Rebekah, the ‘blogging’ world, is definitely much bigger outside of worthy. It hasn’t really picked up speed here. Places like myspace is what Omega is talking more about. Where ppl will just post a blog to talk about the day they had. The struggle. The boy they have a crush on. Etc…and it’s on view for everyone to see.

I must confess i have no idea what a blog is supposed to do.I have enjoyed many of the ones posted here. I have noticed that people do seem to find it harder to blog or maybe blog less than post on the board ( maybe that is because they are not sure of what to write?) Just an observation not meant to be a negative comment. Oman i am still going huh? on this one though lol.

Lol indeed, two weeks after you, and I stumble in here again!

The Cristmas letter comparison is an interesting question, but there are some significant differences. First one, is that these are usually sent to people that you already know from actual, not virtual life, often for many, many years. Because they are old friends and family, they have some interest in your life, and touching bases is a natural thing to do, especially with people we do not see so regularly, as we perhaps once did.
Blogging is to strangers, or to those you barely know and may not have met. They do develop into relationships of a sort, somewhat like pen pals, but en masse. Another diference is that in a Christmas letter, you usually have the highlights of the year, vacations, accomplishments, major changes, while blogs are often about that new song you like, a thought you had, or a change in your mood, stuff that would be filler material in your life, not headline stuff. While they are similar in “being all about me” or “all about us”, they are sent to specific people, while the blog is often either public, or to people you invite to see it, but do not realy know. The fact that others can see it, who are not so close, might be part of the appeal, certainly we notice in chat, that people will often be more candid, than the would face to face. This can be similar to a confession, which most people, have no real vehicle for. You also might get feedback, from people who are quite different from the types of people you would associate with by choice, and their may be some good in that. I am sure there are good things about blogging, bad things about blogging, and maybe as many reason why people blog as there are people, and many of them, may have no idea why they blog, it may be nothing more than boredom or a chang of pace. It is a bit early to know what effect blogging will have on people and society, but I think it is safe to say it is here to stay.

lol! Well, since we’ve not talked to George about blog notifications, here it is much later that I’m finally coming back to this blog. And as usual, no time to post as I’d like, but I will say, I do think you really stated your case very well. I agree with your thoughts on blogging. I’ve seen many scenarios of those type blogs you mention on myspace and livejournal that younger ppl should keep private and not post to the world at large.

Btw, I wonder if you’d consider ‘Christmas letters’ similar to blogging? I’ve never done one before and found them generic to do, but this year with vacation and strapped for time, I found myself writing one, and actually enjoying it…but it fits in the category of ‘this letter is all about me’…well, not all. I do mention thanks to Christ - the reason for the season.
But that’s the reason I came back to this blog today. As I wrote my letter, I was reminded of your blogging comments.

I agree with Donna that a notification of a new blog would be helpful, next time we see George, let’s ask him about that.
As to which category of bloggers you would fit into (and yes, I have read your blogs), I have to admit that since I do not understand blogging and am not really a blogger myself, I am admittedly under qualified to even comment on blogger motivation, and probably should not have. I probably and a subconscious agenda to stir up some comments from people who do blog, and maybe understand the phenom better. I have to admit, that there are similarities between blogging and forums. There are differences also. In a forum, it is about a discussion of ideas. Some people feel, that there are things that need to be said and understood by others. People may also feel that they just need to express themselves, it is a way to vent, or perhaps a way to feel recognized. That is where the crossover from forums to blogs exists (in my opinion). Two main things separate a blog from a forum.
In a forum, you post and are expecting a response, it is for that purpose. In a blog, it is all about you, and responses are incidental, except that people may hope to see others comment, to see how others see them. In other word, a forum is about the discussion of ideas, where as a blog is about YOUR ideas, discussion may or may not, be relevant. It took me so long to express that, that I forgot what the second thing was, lol. Sorry
Now, about your category, Donna . . .
I had meant to include in the reasons about why people blog, the notion that some may thing that others can gain something from reading them. This is what I expect to see on a Christian admin blog, and I would say that yours fit that bill. My main comment were directed to the general ‘out there’ blogs, where people are commonly writing what would normally have been material for a private journal, and have put them out there for all the world to see. These are sometimes pity parties, some times shock material, sometimes meaningless (to me) daily trivia. Personally, I do not care what you had for breakfast. There may be something healing in those blogs. When one writes in a journal, one write one’s thoughts with the expectation that no one will see it, but that it could be discovered. In the blog, that dynamic is different. There, you expect thousands to see it, but perhaps that no one, will ever know who you are. I can see, where being able to express yourself that way, could be helpful. But I also see a potential for harm. When people divulge there innermost thoughts anonymously to a large audience, there will always be those who will respond with kind words and encouragement, which is a nice thing to do, but also helps a person who has issues feel more normal. While it is good to feel normal, it is not so good if you are needing help, and then fail to get it, because you are feeling o.k. There will also be those who have similar issues, who will feel better, knowing that others have issues like theirs. They may not seek the help they need. Of course, it could go the other way, maybe someone will seek help based on the encouragement from others. I guess I have mixed emotions on blogs, it is a recent phenom, and all of the data is not it yet.
That is what I like about the chatroom, people with issues do come in, and will get advice, good advice, fairly consistent advice from a Godly perspective.
